Surf Ballroom Lounge, Clear Lake, Iowa, February 4, 2011:

By Bob Wellington

I’ve had the pleasure of covering Alan Clark and The Classics’ performances at the Surf Ballroom Lounge for the past two years. This year turned out to be best ever! Alan and his band turned in a tight, well rehearsed performance that rivaled anything I heard while I was at Clear Lake. For me, it was one of the highlights of the 2011 Winter Dance Party!

Alan had his all-Oklahoma band with him again this year that featured Graham Pugh (guitar), John Reagan (bass) and Will Reagan (drums). These guys really know how to rock!

Alan delivered his "Tribute To Eddie Cochran" show with a passion that can only come from the heart. Noteworthy was his rendition of Hallelujah I Love Her So, a song one would not expect to hear from a four piece band! As usual, Alan interspersed his show with some great original compositions along with some Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper and Gene Vincent. I would be remiss if I did not mention his incredible high energy performance of Jerry Lee Lewis’ High School Confidential which brought the audience to their feet!

While other WDP activities were in conflict with Alan’s performance, he still managed to pack the house to standing room only. Hope to see him again next year!
